Paula is one of my favorite illustrators, an artist in every sense of the word. I truly believe there’s nothing she can’t do, from creating illustrations for UNICEF to playing guitar and writing children’s books. She seems like a woman born on a planet called creativity, and to top it off, she’s authentic and spontaneous. I have the privilege of calling her my best friend, and I know that the world of art – and my world – wouldn’t be the same without her.
Nardi, in my opinion, is the best tattoo artist in Quito, and I’ll even take the risk of saying in all of Ecuador. He’s a fearless man who’s always elevating the quality of his work and setting the standards in his field. I see him studying and improving his technique all the time, his discipline is admirable, and his taste is exquisite. I had been wanting to get a tattoo for years, and when I saw Nardi’s work, I didn’t hesitate.
As you can see, this is a powerful and creative couple, so I have to admit that I was a bit nervous for this photoshoot. I planned it for a month and even took the liberty of designing Paula’s outfit, which surprised me because she was willing to wear it. We made it from scratch with a seamstress. This was one of the most involved sessions I’ve ever done because of the freedom the protagonists gave me as an artist, trusting my vision as a photographer. They let me choose literally everything, and we ventured into new locations and out of the norm.
It’s so refreshing to have this kind of freedom. I tried to find everything based on their style and personality, and the result speaks for itself.
